We all know that saying, 'When life hands you lemons..' Well, I make lemonade, lemon bars, lemon meringue, slice and zest that lemon and then garnish my vodka lemonade with it.
My husband and I have become poster children for making the absolute most of the crap that life throws at you and making it shine. Our little man is now living in another state and for the last six months, we have traveled there every other weekend to have visitation with him. Thankfully, one of those weekends fell on his sixth birthday. We planned and schemed ahead of time as to how we were going to make this weekend the most spectacular since our new "home" with him for these weekends was a hotel. Since my other half had a legal obligation due to this sudden move, I was flying out that Friday morning in order to pick up the little one from school and my hubs was flying there after court for the day concluded. Therefore he would not be joining us until the little one was asleep.
We had decided it would be fun to decorate the hotel room and have it be a cool surprise for him after I picked him up from school. So I rushed to get the car and headed to the party city nearby to purchase the rad truck stuff my love and I had picked out prior. Thankfully, we've been staying at the same hotel for close to five months now that they knew us, knew our situation and have been INCREDIBLE in their service to us. They had our room ready early so I could quickly decorate before school was out, as well as, drop our little surprises off too.

I had introduced our little man to Pinterest the trip before this because I like to find new ideas for turning our "home" into different scenes (ex: a construction site, a city with a million roads, a very long fort, etc..). He wanted to see what else there was that I had put in his folder for him. Well, he found this amazing garbage/recycle truck made from cardboard and that is what he wanted for his birthday. Now that my man was with us, he and his mini decided on a 'BOYS ONLY' day and went back to this neat Children's Museum we had found two weeks before. I was totally fine not joining boys day because I had a surprise I needed to make. It took longer than expected to find materials considering I didn't even have scissors with me and I probably shouldn't spray paint a giant truck green in a hotel room. I settled on duct tape. Green duct tape. I found a lot of boxes and boards that would create this dream and other necessities that our second home didn't really have. After a few hours of construction and crafting the masterpiece was made.
I had some help with the grill of the truck as well as the license plate and the truck identification number, which I much appreciated. I also received direction as to where to put the 'wall' part between the trash/recycle dump and the drivers seat. We both melt when mr. mini gets SO excited over something, so it made our time with him that much more special and worth it, regardless of the situation. The little man, a day shy of being six whole years old, was now one step closer to being the garbage truck driver that his little heart desires to be when he is grown up.
