After a couple cakes for my stepson and one for my roommate, I started receiving requests from my friends for their children's parties. The first one was a Minnie Mouse party for a sweet 2 year old. There was an estimated 100 guests attending, so I had to come up with a way to make enough for all to eat as well gathering the full essence of Minnie Mouse, a total girly girl. For me, I think of her heels, her bow, and frilly dress. Automatically, I decided a two tier cake that would resemble her dress would be a great place to start. Now, unsure that a cake is enough, I made cupcakes to ensure that all guests had a dessert. The cupcakes also allowed the theme to be expanded upon. Once all the cakes were baked, it was now time to focus on the pieces that made Minnie the Disney Icon she is. I decided to start from the bottom up.
Using marshmallows and scissors, I was able to create the round yellow heels that adorned Minnie's unique mouse foot. Yellow food coloring and pink chocolate helped me finalize the look. Now, for the dress. We updated Minnie's color to pink instead of the traditional red and the outcome looked like this.
Minnie's ears and her bow were made as well, but added after delivery, as well as, some last minute touches and fixes to the dress part of the cake. The next day was the party and everything was put together along with other decorations. This 2 year old was in Minnie heaven.
