A little over three years ago, I was planning my first ever boys party with a handful of little boys committed to attend. Pressure was on. I can do pink, bows and ponies, no problem. This car, truck, engine thing... well, um... I can drive and put gas in my car. That's sufficient, right? Well our little guy had taken an interest in monster trucks and Monster Jam had been the highlight of 2012, so obviously a monster truck party was the theme for our soon to be three year old.
I began researching monster truck things. We found a cool monster truck bounce house, fun plates, cups and napkins, and the invitations made every boy jump up and down with excitement. The only thing left was a cake. I can follow box instructions, so that was the easy part. How do I make this awesome though? Thankfully. God gifted me with a very creative, artistic and crafty side. With a trip to the store, I was on a mission to find 'dirt', 'tires', trucks and cars. The outcome?

Not too shabby for the first cake ever, right? Fast forward to the next year. Our almost four year old was obsessed with fire trucks. The kid can mimic a siren like no one else. He was also now in preschool, so his social circle had increased and I had to come up with something that would be enjoyed by both little girls and boys. I spoke with the fire station around the corner and they were completely on board with making this party awesome. A couple clicks of a button and some online purchases were made and a list of crafts and party favors were created. Now to come up with a one of a kind cake. I don't think I slept a wink the night before the party because I was too busy creating the yummiest fire truck, but the result was totally worth it!
2013 zoomed by and before we realized it, it was 2014. Along with the shock of the little man turning five, it was that time again to push the creative boundaries. This year, construction trucks and garbage trucks were the favorites, along with Veggie Tales Pirate Movie. We opted to go the pirate route this year. This was fun because I was really able to push myself in the invitation section alone with a burnt treasure map done in water color, message in the bottle style. But the pirate ship cake I envisioned, it was jaw dropping. I was amped and nervous to take this on. I'll show you all the party details in another blog, on another day, we are keeping this one strictly to the production of the scrumptious stuff. So without further ado, here is the cake that made our sweet boy smile from ear to ear.
So, if you've read the 'about me' portion of my blog, you know that my step son is 6, but unfortunately this year his birthday was celebrated in a hotel room. Therefore limiting my abilities to go all out. However, my husband and I did manage to pull off a garbage truck/recycle truck themed hotel room. The joy about my boys is that they get SO excited for the next cake, project, or craft that I take on for them. They are like my cheerleaders and my biggest critics when it comes to "boy stuff," and I absolutely love it. I haven't traded in my pink and I am on strict orders to not put pink on anything when it comes to those coveted boy items, but I have developed this insatiable love for trucks and I can't wait until I get to post about a semi truck cake or a garbage truck cake. I am honestly looking forward to that day and I am smiling just thinking about it.
