2013 was a big year for my family. My little sister was getting married in the beginning of October and my husband and I were saying our 'I Do's' at the end of November. Our weddings couldn't have been more opposite. My husband and I got married on the balcony of The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas with only a handful of close friends and our immediate family. The view was AMAZING with the Bellagio fountains and lights dancing right behind us and my Dad, who is a pastor, married us. After the ceremony, we had dinner at The Wicked Spoon at The Cosmopolitan hotel and that was about all that our wedding included. My sister, on the other hand, invited all family, there was well over 100 people and there was the traditional ceremony and reception. Each wedding suited our personalities and fulfilled our dreams.
For Christmas that year, I wanted to make something special as a way to thank my parents and in-laws, as well as have a piece of our wedding that would adorn the Christmas Tree as a reminder of our special day. Now, in my family, buying ornaments, somehow, has become this thing you do for gifts. I have rolled my eyes for so many years as I open ornament after ornament (I can honestly decorate about three trees with the amount of ornaments I have). But strangely, I find myself buying them for my husband and stepson... every year. (Thanks Mom for that trait...)
Well, you probably predicted what I came up with for my gift. Yup, you guessed it!! I decided an ornament would be a wonderful gift for everyone to commemorate our joyous day. Obviously that wasn't all that they were getting, but it made for an excellent gift topper!

Our 'invitations' were a simple double sided 5'7" card. One side described the way in which our wedding was going to take place while in Vegas and the other side was an invite to our open house reception that would take place two weeks after our wedding. I cut up two to three invitations into strips. I then took those strips and wrapped them around a pencil in order to curl them. Once they were all curled, I stuffed them into an ornament ball and closed the top! I also made additional ornaments with my sister's invitations for my parents, as well as for my sister and her husband.
My main piece of advice: use ONLY the plastic ornament balls. Let's just say, one of the ornaments didn't quite make it on Christmas morning. I am pretty talented in being clumsy, so as I tripped up a stair, the package took a dive and that was the end of that glass ornament's life. Sad, but true.
One of my favorite things about the ornament in this picture, is that "in LOVE" stands out from two different strips next to each other and you can see my special personalized wedding Converse! *Makes me smile*
